1. General description

    The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE)  is a large-scale, European, cross-national panel survey research project on beliefs and attitudes regarding social and family networks, socio-economic status and health. The survey is held among people aged 50 or older. The third wave (SHARELIFE) is a retrospective survey on the partner history, children, housing and health of the respondent. In total, six waves have been conducted thus far between 2004 and 2015.

  • 2004/2005 and 2006/2007 wave: single core questionnaire (no varying modules)
  • 2008/2009 wave: retrospective survey

  • 2013 wave: single core questionnaire
  • 2015 wave: single core questionnaire
  • Probability sampling, ≥ 50 years of age
  • Spouses of the respondents are also interviewed, even when they are < 50 years of age
